Safair, the leading aviation operation in South Africa will start operating in Kenyan skies as of 14 October 2009. As a part of the Aergo Group, based in Dublin, Ireland, Safair is one of the most well known names in civil aviation.

The Kenyan operation is headed by Howard Tonks (Vice President East Africa) and Steve Parkinson (Chief Operations Officer) also a director of Phoenix Aviation.

Safair’s operations cover a wide range of services including but not limited to; aid and relief work, emergency search and rescue, media coverage, general cargo, live animal transportation, Arctic and Antarctic deliveries of delicate equipment and logistical support, evacuations, oil spill response and passenger charters.

The Kenya operations will be based out of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi. Regional companies will now be able to lease these expertly maintained aircraft at minimal notice.

Safair sees Africa as one of the markets with the most potential for future growth. With over 40 years of experience on the African continent Safair has the diverse skill set to provide customised services to a wide range of clients. They will initially have aircraft worth $30 million positioned in Nairobi. This will increase based on market demand and Safair’s aim is to engage in the local area by offering opportunities to local workers. Establishing an operation in Kenya gives a commercial benefit to the area, which will also be in the interest of potential clients.
